OWL Students

Welcome students to your OWL in Care of Magical Creatures! I am Professor Bryce and I am very excited about teaching you this year, I hope you enjoy the class! Your OWL will comprise of three tasks each contributing equally towards your final grade. Tasks 1 and 3 can be handed in any time to the Owlery before the end of week eight, however whilst not compulsory I would prefer you hand something in before interim. Task 2 is not flexible in its deadline, it will be conducted during weeks 6 and 7 and I would advise you to start it at the beginning of that two week period to ensure you complete it in time. Alternate time frames for Task 2 will only be offered to those students who provide me with an adequate reason before the task begins as to why they can’t take it with everyone else.

Any issues at all you can PM me during the year, or ask at my desk which is located in the Slytherin Dungeons.

Task 1

You have been asked by Newt Scamander to write an entry for the new edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It is your task to write a 300 word entry on one of the follow creatures.

- Dragons

- Unicorns

- Werewolves

What you include in your entry is completely up to you, but the best marks will be awarded to those who mention crucial information such as appearance, behaviour, habitat and diet.

Task 2

For your second task we will be having a practical lesson in the Outdoor Classroom. Please report in at the beginning of week 6. The classroom is located here --> http://myhogwarts.com/forum/3001811/ See you there, and remember this task will only run between weeks 6 and 7. You must PM me to receive the password for this task.

Task 3

Magical Creatures are generally well looked after and cared for by members of the wizarding world. Unfortunately not all witches and wizards keep Magical Creatures as pets for noble reasons. There exists in our society a minority group of witches and wizards whose only motivation for breeding Magical Creatures is financial gain. These “breeders” raise creatures from birth with the intention of selling items from their Creatures for a mountain of cash.

For your final task I would like you to explore different items from Magical Creatures that could be sold, what these items are used for, what magical properties you think they may have and where/ how could you find these items in the wild. Some items you could look at are Unicorn hair, Acromantula venom, Doxy eggs etc. Basically you have free reign to examine a wide variety of items that come from Magical Creatures. You should aim for your project to be around 300 words, although quality is more important to me than quantity.
