This exam will be a practical one, so you'll want to get started quickly. You'll need to perform for me the following transformations. In each instance, make sure you describe how you go about it in depth! I need you to include your wand movement and incantation in order to receive full credit!

  3. Please turn this rabbit into a slipper.

  4. Please turn this hedgehog into a pincushion.

  5. Please turn this teapot into a tortoise. 

THIRDYEARS

Part One: Free Response. Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability.

  1. What are metamorphmagi?

  2. What can limit a metamorphmagus' abilities? 

  3. What is an animagus?

  4. What are switching spells?

  5. Name and describe two of the four principle branches of transfiguration.

 

Part Two: Practical. Please perform the following spells, making sure to explain how you go about it! You'll need to include your incantation and wand movement in order to receive full credit. 

  1. Please switch the pages of this book with the stack of homework on my desk.

  2. Please switch the butterbeer in this goblet with the water in this glass.

  3. Please switch the talons of my owl with the claws of my cat.

 

FOURTH YEARS

Part One: Free Response. Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability.

  1. Please rank the branches of transfiguration we covered this year in order of least difficult to most difficult. 

  2. What other type of magic can conjuration be classified as?

  3. Where do vanished objects go?

  4. What must we know in order to untransfigure something?

 

Part Two: Practical. Please perform the following spells, making sure to explain how you go about it! You'll need to include your incantation and wand movement in order to receive full credit. 

  1. Please vanish this stack of homework--don't worry, it's already been graded!

  2. Please vanish the pool of water by my desk.

  3. Please conjure up a snake.

  4. Please conjure up some birds. 

  5. Please untransfigure this rabbit slipper thing--it used to be a rabbit.
